BB Cream, stands for Beauty Balm or Blemish Balm. This magical multi-purpose face product is now a mainstream product in America. The BB Cream craze first started in Korea, in the early 2000s after popular celebrities raved about its magical healing and concealing effects on the skin. BB Cream originated in Germany, created by Dr. Christine Schrammek MD in 1967, as a prescription product for people who had undergone cosmetic surgery, for the purpose of protecting and healing surgical scars. Then Korean beauty companies started manufacturing BB Creams for cosmetic purposes. Most Korean BB Creams contain silicone, arbutin and skin care properties. It usually provides a dewy natural look, which in most cases makes you look youthful and fresh.
At one time, the BB Cream phenomenon hit all of Asia, with over 100 BB Cream brands. BB Creams used as cosmetics does not provide opaque or heavy coverage, and most Korean BB Creams are known for its sheer coverage, that really enhance the natural skin color of the skin. BB Creams are good for people with already-perfect skin or semi-flawless skin, and not for acne-prone or problematic skin.

Sephora, the beauty wonderland in America, now carries different brands of BB Cream. Thanks to all the companies that started their own brand of BB Cream. Dr. Jart, a popular Korean brand was the first to enter the US Market, then western beauty giants like Clinique, Smashbox and now Dior follow suit. Isn`t it so amazing?

Quoted from Sephora:
"Inspired by cutting-edge Asian beauty rituals and developed in collaboration with Dior Makeup Artists, HydraLife BB Crème combines the moisturizing and protective powers of a skincare product with the immediate complexion-enhancing and even-toning properties of a foundation. The complexion is left moisturized, smooth, and velvety soft."
Let`s not forget Laura Mercier and Nars came up with Tinted Moisturizers which are very similar to BB Creams. Tinted Moisturizer is a crossbreed between a liquid foundation and a BB Cream. Better for women with oily or combination skin.
BB Creams are the ultimate beauty must-have of any woman. Although most available products are catered for fair skin tones, this is one of the greatest innovation in the beauty industry.
