Banh beo is a Vietnamese dish that is rice cakes with dried shrimp and usually pork rinds as well as fish sauce on the side. The one in the picture is a little different. It has the rice cake and the dried shrimp, but there was no pork rind. Instead, there was fried garlic pieces and a type of bean.
I`m thinking it might be different because it`s a different style of making it because the cuisine is from a different region of Vietnam compared to the way I usually see this dish. If anybody knows, please let me know.
The dish itself was still delicious. However, the rice cake was on the mushier side. The fried garlic pieces add a nice crunch to the dish but it`s not the same as the pork rind.
The restaurant I visited for this dish is located in San Francisco. I believe it was called Ngoc Mai. If you yelp it, then you will see that they`re famous for their bun bo hue.
Have you guys ever had banh beo? What are your favorite Vietnamese dishes?
