My husband has a huge sweet tooth some times and will go through an entire bag of Oreos within a couple of days. Therefore, I decided to make him a batch of cookies he has never tried before...Snickerdoodles! Snickerdoodles are a childhood favorite of mine but he had never tried them before.
Snickerdoodles are very similar to regular soft cinnamon sugar cookies which I have made before plenty of times before but the difference between the two is the slight tartness you get from the cream of tarter.
The original recipe calls for shortening which I didn`t have so I used butter instead. But you can totally get away with using margarine for less trans fat.
Another way to cut out the fat is by substituting butter or shortening with light cream cheese. But my hubby is a thin guy so getting fat is the least of his worries so I stuck with butter.
These are the ingredients I used:
1.5 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1.5 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp cream of tartar
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
For cinnamon sugar I used:
2 tbsp white sugar
2 tsps ground cinnamon
I mixed the sugar, butter, vanilla and eggs together then added in the flour, baking soda, salt and cream of tartar. Once the cookie dough was done, I rolled the dough into 1 inch balls and coat them with cinnamon sugar. Into the oven the went at 400 Degrees F for about ten minutes.
They came out super yummy and soft!! My hubby ate like half of the batch already. lol.
What is your favorite type of cookie?
