One of my least favorite things to do when it comes to beauty (other than plucking my eyebrows) is dying my hair. Unfortunately, if I don`t wan`t my dark roots to start showing through and make me look like I am trying out the ombre hair trend (which I don`t like by the way), I have to dye my hair at least once every 2 months. If you are like me and don`t like high maintenance hair, going to a professional can be an unnecessary expense. Not to mention the fact that I rather not spend 2 hours at the hairdresser unless I am getting highlights, a haircut or an updo for a special occasion. So when it comes to quick color change and refreshing the color of my locks, I like to save my money by going the cheaper route....using box dye!
I know a lot of people hate box dye. It`s messy, it never really looks like what it says on their pictures etc. But its dirt cheap and if you get the hang of it you can become a pro at applying this stuff and saving a lot of money at the same time.
I dye my moms hair every 6 to 8 weeks so I guess you can say I have mastered the art of using box dye (not that it`s an art...or not that it a difficult task to do).
One of the luxuries of being an Avon representative is that you get to try out new products (sometimes for free) before they are available to everyone else. About a month or so ago, Avon let all of their representatives try out this product for free in the color of our choice. They have tons of colors to choose from but I usually use light golden brown so that`s what I decided to go with. When I got my order, I let the box sit in my cabinet for a little over a month because I didn`t feel like dying my hair just yet.
Last night as I was combing my hair before bed I saw that my roots where really dark so I told my husband that`s it! I am dying my hair tomorrow morning! My husband was like "would you like me to dye it for you?" I was like "yeah why not?!" Yes, my wonderful and amazing hubby sometimes dyes my hair. He`s actually quite good at it too. However, this morning as I was brushing my teeth I saw my hair again and cringed....I couldn`t wait for my husband to get home so I decided to bust out the plastic gloves and get to it myself.
The Advance Techniques kit comes with 5 items which include: gloves, protective pro treatment, developer bottle, post treatment conditioner, and creme color in your color of choice.
Right of the bat I was very impressed that it came with a pre hair color treatment. Most box dyes do not come with that so the fact that this one did really surprised me. It smelled amazing too. What i did was apply the pro treatment all over my hair before applying the hair color. I left the color in my hair, washed out then applied the conditioner and left it in my hair for about 5 minutes. The conditioner also smells amazing by the way.
I have to admit I love how soft it made my hair feel. It feels more silky and looks more shiny than before I dyed my hair. it sort of feels like I have spent the entire day at the salon. I must say that this is one of the best, if not the best, hair color box dye set I have ever tried. And I have been dying my hair since I was 15 (I am in my mid 20s now), so that`s a lot of box dye I have tried.
*Pro treatment and post treatment conditioner smell amazing
*3 step process (not many box dye brands give you the full 3 steps)
*Leaves hair shiny and silky
*Comes with a lot of product so if you usually need more than one box with other brands you will find that it only takes one with this brand
* True to color
*25 different shades to choose from
*If you love the treatment packages it comes with you can purchase the full sizes
*No strong smell
*You can only purchase this online or from your Avon representative
This product has been available now since April 9th and the regular price is $7.99 but you can always catch it on sale. Right now it`s on sale for $5.99 (that`s cheaper than most drugstore hair color brands!).
They have 4 different categories: Beautiful Brunettes, Bold Blacks, brilliant blondes, Ravishing Reds. Choose the color that is right for you. A good tip is to not go beyond 3 shades darker than your natural hair color to achieve better results.
