Another Great Year for Austin City Limits [2012]

I was so excited as we drove through Texas to reach the city of Austin where I`d be spending a weekend listening to incredible music, chowing down on delicious Austin eats and meeting a ton of cool new people who share the same passion for music as I do.
We checked into our hotel, grabbed some dinner at my favorite spot on 6th street (a couple margaritas thrown in) and got ready for the next day where we make the trip to Zilker Park for the festival.
The weather was perfect, it was overcast and in the mid 70`s with a nice breeze. We waited anxiously at the gates for them to open at 11am. When the gates finally were opened there was a rush of people to get into the festival and I could feel my heart skipping beats and I excitedly took in the scenery of the amazing day to come.
First stop was Austin Ventures stage where I planned to see my friends in the band Quiet Company. I had attended several of their shows in the past, but being in the ACL lineup is a BIG deal and I had promised them I`d come and see them at their first ACL show. They did fantastic (duh!) and the audience was having so much fun and so were all the guys.
Next up was Wild Child- another local Austin band I had only recently learned of through Quiet Company. I was pretty excited to see the adorable duo perform live and I am SO glad I stopped to watch as they were INCREDIBLE! A truly amazing performance I won`t forgot.
My festival buddy and I could feel our tummies rumblin` so we decided to head over to the Austin Eats area to grab some grub. We walked along the dozens and dozen of different vendors having a hard time deciding what to try first. We settled on grabbing some sweet kettle corn from Children of the Kettle Corn to munch on later and then grabbed tasty Gyros from Pureheart and ice cold blueberry lemonade from The Daily Juice. We chowed down and headed out to the next stage on our list of must-see bands for the day. We caught the end of Zola Jesus and made our way over to the BudLight stage to take a break from standing and sit and listen to a little Rufus Wainwright. After taking a nice half hour break listening to Rufus we headed over to the ACL Merchandise tent where we browsed all the great tee`s they had for sale and grabbed a couple. By that time it was nearly 4:00 and we knew we needed to head to AMD Stage to catch Metric- A new band to me that I was very excited to see.
Metric was AWESOME! I was dancing and having a really great time.
But then the worst possible thing imaginable happened- it started to POUR! I had poorly planned and decided against bringing a rain poncho (not a mistake I`ll make next year) and got SOAKED! It stopped raining after about 15 or 20 minutes and we continued to wait for the next band, The Shins. Right before my beloved Shins went on it began raining again but that didn`t stop be from enjoying every minute of "Caring is Creepy" and all the other wonderful songs from The Shins. Waiting, waiting, waiting...this was the big moment I had been waiting for all day....JACK WHITE. He came on stage and I almost melted- I was SO excited. I was at the front of the stage and had a perfect and clear view of his entire set. He played a lot of his older stuff which made my night. I loved hearing a ton of his White Stripes stuff. I got a really great close-up picture of Jack white he was playing thanks to my camera lasting just long enough to let me snap a photo! I was super excited to have something I could keep to remember that night forever.

Last weekend was perfect, and I wouldn`t take back a single second of it (even getting rained on twice!). I plan to go back every year from now on and can`t believe I didn`t make more of an effort to go in the past.

If you ever get the chance, I definitely recommend making a trip to Austin, TX to attend ACL Fest 2013 next year, or any year. It`s an incredible experience you will NEVER forgot.
