I`ve known for a while that they have a monthly gathering for fresh fruits/veggies that people can pick out from at a local park or something in my community, but today was the first time I actually got to go with my family! They told us that the local grocery stores have an excess amount sometimes, which they donate to this sort of organization they have which they allow people to pick out 60lb of veggies for $10-20.
We got around ten green bell peppers (these are over $1 at the grocery store!),
A TON of cherry tomatoes,
too many handfuls of jalapenos,
more and more tomatoes,
15 corn on the cob,
When I went to the grocery store today, I added it all up and it DEFINITELY cost way more than $10.
You guys should definitely look into this sort of program around your community! It saves so much money since veggies at the local grocery store can add up to an expensive amount, and knowing how the economy is nowadays, everybody needs a bit of help. :) My culinary teacher mentioned this program to me before about eating seasonal fruits and veggies so I`m sure there`s a ton of programs like this out there. I`m sorry I couldn`t take a pic of the whole entire thing, my grandmother whisked away all of the veggies before I ever got to it lol!
