http://Autospotters.com posted an update to whether or not they are rating the horsepower of the new Mustang less than what it is. This is all part of the manufacturer`s horsepower wars to ensure they have the fastest cars of their competitors. Here is what http://Autospotters.com had to about that:
Ford brought back the 5 liter in 2011 claiming 412 horsepower. Now for 2013, the 5.0 is packing a claimed 420 ponies. We use the term claimed because when we strapped the 2011 to the dyno, it put down closer to 450 hp.
We posed the following question to one of the Mustang engineers:When we put one of your 2011 5.0s on the dyno, it put down closer to an equivalent 450 horsepower rather than the claimed 412. Did you really add 8 more horses for 2013 or just rate this thing closer to what it actually is?
With a grin, we were told, The extra power is there. Whatever you dynoed before, this one will put down at least 8 more than that. He went on to explain that the extra power was found by adjusting the timing, removing piston oil squirters and a couple of other tricks learned from the development of the Boss 302.
Overall, the 2013 Mustang GT is so far ahead of its long time Camaro SS and Challenger R/T rivals, that is now finds itself more suited as a BMW M3 competitor.
Sounds pretty cool! They look good too!
