I wanted to share with you all, my recent find at the dollar store.
I posted a haul from Sally Beauty recently where I purchased the much raved about Tangle Teezer. The Tangle Teezer is a plastic hair brush that is supposed to brush and detangle your hair with no breakage and no pain!
I did a review and I loved it! I have super thick, curly hair, but it glided through my hair with ease!
See my review here: http://www.luuux.com/viz/tangle-teezer-review-1
So when I spotted the Hair Bean at my local Dollarama for only 2 bucks, I wanted to test it out and see if it was as good as the original.
The Hair Bean is a similar concept to the tangle Teezer. They both have flexible plastic bristles in alternating long and short rows. Both are meant to be held in the palm of your hand since they don`t have a handle. They are similarly shaped, though the Hair Bean is shaped like a kidney bean and the Tangle Teezer is a more unique shape. None of these things really affect performance.
The Hair Bean is handy since it also comes with a handy Carrying case with a little mirror inside. This makes it ideal for traveling since you can toss it in a purse or luggage and not worry about the bristles bending like with the Tangle Teezer.
The Hair Bean seems to be a little lower quality. The back of the brush looks like it may pop off, though I know that people pop the back off the Tangle Teezer as well and use the hollow inside to store hair elastics and the like.
They both are a little difficult to clean, since hair gets stuck in between the bristles, but I just use an old (clean!) toothbrush to brush out the hair every once in a while.
I must say, they are both pretty equal. The Hair Bean`s bristles seem to be a little shorter than the Tangle Teezer, but it has still been able to manage the big curly mess on my head! Lol
The Tangle Teezer cost around 13 dollars (?) plus tax at Sally, but the Hair Bean cost only 2 dollars plus tax! I`m gonna keep the Tangle Teezer for everyday since it seems to be a little more sturdy in construction, but I will use the Hair Bean for travelling. I`m considering going and buying 2 more - one to give to my sister who keeps borrowing mine, and one to have handy in my car or purse!
Have you tried any of these brushes (or another knockoff)? How has your experience faired?
