Sadly Gary Garter who played for the New York Mets has passed away from Cancer. He was diagnosed with Brain Cancer just this past May in its later stages. His prognosis was not good.

He is best remembered as being a member of the 1986 Mets team that won the World Series. He's a Hall of Famer and have previously also played for Ray's Montreal Expos (now the Washington Nationals).

At the age of 57, nicknamed "The Kid", he truly did die just a kid. My thought goes out to his family in this time of mourning.

Talk the TALK
1) Have you ever been sadden by the loss of a sports figure or celebrity?
2) Have you ever lost someone to cancer?

that's horrible news. any death in sports or death in general is sad. I'm very lucky, my mom who was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer a year ago is still alive and doing really well and is cancer free as of her latest check up. we still have for years of regular check up and medication but everything is looking very positive. ;D there is hope, ya just got to leave it up to God.

I'm really sad to hear of his passing! He was one of our favorite players when he played for the Expos and we would go see him play. I had a friend and a cousin pass away from cancer and it is a devastating disease.

Who is he? You always post about these sports people that I have never heard of. I almost lost my grandfather to cancer, but he's been in remission for a few years now and 94 this year :)

It's scary how many people get cancer I think statistically it is 1 in 3 and getting closer to 2 in 5 now. I haven't been saddened by the loss of a celebrity or sports figure. I have never lost anyone to cancer and hope I never do.
