A young referee of 20 years, was attacked by his own assistant during the game between the teams under-17's, Tourrette-Levens and Montet Bornala, in the region of Nice, France.
In the absence of "linesmen", the leader of each team was chosen to play the role, but the responsible for Montet didn't like to see two players on his team expelled. He took the flag field and hit his "team leader" in the face!
"There was a lot of confusion around the referee. It was a lot of people to curse, he was insulted, first, and then the assistant took the stick that served as the corner flag and threw it against his face", lamented the leader of another team, Tourrette-Levens, who won 4-3.
The injuries were not serious, but the young referee was in "shock," explains one of those responsible for football in that region of France, Claude Colombe. "We went to visit him in the hospital and didn't recognized us" he explains.
The President of the Montet Bornala, Gérard Pignon, was bothered by what happened. "I'm more annoyed than you may think", he stated.
