When I was younger I kick boxed in my local town hall every Wednesday for 2 hours and it was such a great sport and a superb workout to factor in. While some of you are probably thinking kickboxing is not a suitable sport for girls I thoroughly disagree.
The first reason I disagree is that it is the best sport for toning up your legs because you spend so much time preparing for gradings and learning new kicks which all work your leg muscles. All the jogging and kicking toned up your butt too which is always a positive in my books!
What happens in a typical kickboxing class?
For my my classes began at 7:00pm and ended at 9:00pm. The first half hour was spend jogging around the hall, and doing various stretches for your legs, hands, arms etc. After this we usually would pair off and practice our punches. Next we would practice our front kicks which are kicks from your leading foot. Then we would finish with my favourite move, the roundhouse kick. In the last 30 minutes we would do some sparring which is basically fighting against another person using all the things we learned in class.
The reason I took it up was because my parents felt it was important for girls to learn how to defend themselves and while they hoped I would do it for about a year, I kept kickboxing for 5 years and had a green belt according the level of learning and skills you had achieved I would recommend it to anyone to take it up as a sport.
