Fabio Capello helped England to qualify for the European Championship before deciding to leave ‘the three lions’. Calm and relaxed, the Italian coach, who’s receiving offers from everyone, found time for an interview with MARCA in Madrid.
QUESTION: Have you considered leaving the dugout behind?
ANSWER: If I find something interesting, some club with a good sporting project and good prospects, then I’ll take up coaching again. Otherwise, my immediate future will involve working as a sports commentator.
Q. How do you think the season went in Spain?
A. Real Madrid won the league because it was the best team. I was convinced that team could win the treble, that the team could certainly have won everything. It broke the record for points and goals and achieved some fantastic figures.
Q. Were you surprised by Guardiola stepping down?
A. What surprised me was that he didn’t manage to handle the pressure. But that happens. The job is intense because of everything that surrounds football.
Q. Mourinho has just extended his contract until 2016, what do you think about that?
A. Well. It’s important in order to keep calm within the club, for the players. That way he’ll also be able to work with greater peace of mind.
Q. What do you think about events in Italy, with the match fixing?
A. It’s embarrassing. It seems impossible that 30 years after a similar situation happened in my country there are still people who try to control the results of games.
Q. Will Spain win the European Cup?
A. Spain is the main contender. It’s a fantastic team, with brilliant players and a brilliant manager.
