Sport & Fitness » 72 Dead in Deadly Soccer Match in Egypt

I saw this on CNN today and was shocked at the senseless violence at a Soccer match in Egypt. Up to 72 people are dead and hundreds injured as fans from a rival team invade the field throwing stuff and burning things. An interesting analysis by CNN is that Egypt nowadays is lacking in security personnel ever since the popular uprising that knocked out their long time Dictator/President.

I've heard of soccer incidence before where there are riots in other countries. But I've never seen something to this scale and definitely not in the U.S. Perhaps at concerts but not at a sporting event.

Talk the TALK
1) Have you ever been a witness to violence by Sports fans?
2) Have you ever participated in such violence?

My goodness!... And I though only in Mexico, Argentina and Brazil these kind of stuff happen....
I remember in my hometown (Monterrey. Mexico) soccer games always go bad... violence between its fans its so common downthere, and just for a local team game...
People shouldn't take those games seriously...

That's sickening how out of control people are over a game. I think Soccer games have the most violence than any other sporting event.

it's tragic but quite ridiculous for lives to have to be lost due to a sport event. Isn't sports suppose to be fun? Now I know why I don't play any more sports. ;P

I saw this at the news yesterday. I never been part of sports violence ( thats because i don't watch them lol) and never saw it in person but only on TV and unfortunatly is quite common, jnot always this extreme but there is always some kind of violence. Its sad and i don't why people don't just enjoy the game instead of making stuff like this

Clearly you've never watched a game in England or saw any Hooligan videos. Nothing to this extreme, but I've seen some crazy stuff at games. In other countries soccer clubs and their fans are like our gangs.

I did not read this, this is horrible. And they say cursing at sports events is bad since it's family function. I've witnessed fights here and there from drunk punks, but definitely nothing to this extreme. Horrible.

dang, that is messed up that ppl can't even enjoy a good outing without some dumb ppl messing things up bc they are just plain rude and inconsiderate. Shame ppl had to die while at a soccer game. That is one reason why I do NOT like CROWDS.

I just saw this on the news and it's such a shame that they took it to this level. I'm sure this was not only a riot because of the soccer match. Politics were probably also the reason they took it this far. It's very sad.

No and No. That is so scary. Everyone here plays nice even if the teams they're cheering for at rivals it won't go further than jokingly making fun of the visiting team :p
