I jumped in on a road trip with my aunt upstate last month and we made a quick stop to the Vanderbilt Mansion before heading home. A natural historic site, the Mansion is definitely huge and tells much about its history. It was an uphill drive and the exit is on another side. I tell you, it's a huge area! The mansion is big, considering this was built way back, sans Caterpillar, maybe? It also has humongous lawns. I feel bad for their gardener.
We were walking around it and I was trying to picture how they enjoyed this estate back in the days, with a view of the River on the background. Did the ladies enjoy their teatime here? Men talked about politics and business with tobacco in their hands? I wonder..
The photo is mine, and above is the side view of the mansion. I didn't get a good front profile. The mansion was too big to fit in my digital camera!

i really like buildings like this.
I love the architecture of the building itself.
It seems to be a great house, but I really prefer something smaller and more cozy
ooh i wanna go inside
