The Mammoth Hot Springs are located near the northern entrance of Yellowstone National Park. The water that feeds the hot springs comes from the Norris Geyser Basin after traveling under a fault line. These hot springs have a unique feature caleld terraces, which are geologic formations that have come about from the heat, flowing water and limestone. Terrace Mountain at the Mammoth Hot Springs is known as the largest carbonate depositing hot spring in the world. Since it does lie on a fault line, earthquake activity has shifted the vent for the spring and caused some of the springs tto be dry. The carbonate kind of looks like snow to me in some pictures. I don't know if some of you remember back to biology classes of high school and university that the groups of bacteria that live in extreme conditions like extreme heat are called thermophiles and create a lovely assortment of colors like the yellow and oranges. Ooo science word haha j/j.
Have you ever gotten the opportunity to visit Mammoth Hot Springs?
Did you learn about extremophiles and thermophiles back in school if you remember?
Do the carbonate deposits remind you of snow in a way?

♫ Princess ♫: It really is breath taking :)
Breathtaking!
Huda Kaake: Lol that's alright since it doesn't apply to most people's careers haha.
Shar H<3: You're lucky. It looks like a great place for walks and hikes too.
Alicia ☺: I'd like to visit one day as well.
Cassandra Lin: It's not exactly in an exciting state lol.
eve ♥: Neither have I :p
Bruno Silva: Lol I guess in a way some of the pictures do seem like they'd be from a science textbook :p
Courtney Jones: I wish I took some forensic science classes when I was still in University.
Merel de lange: dislike :p
Wow, that really looks amazing! I never paid attention in those classes, though, so while some of this does sound familiar, I haven't the slightest clue what they are lol
I've been there before, it's just been a long time. It looks so cool though! I want to go back!
Wow, nature is amazing, eh? I would love to visit Yellowstone one day. I love seeing natural wonders like that. ^^
My brother wants to go, but I don't want to go so far up north
I've never been there before.
I never visited unfortunately but it does look nice and i do remember it a bit from school, actually like crispy pointed out, it takes me back to science class and it seems like pictures you would see in a science book =D
i wasn't a fan of science in hs or in college, well forensic science was great in college. But I haven't been here yet, whenever I see this I think of the movie volcano... I know scary thought. ={

Michelle Mai Huynh♡: Science was my best subject and math my worst lol.
Looks cool =) I want to go here. Science was my worst subject..
mylittlecasey *: I know in a way it looks quite unrealistic, but so did the one post I made on the lakes in Croatia lol. This looks more real than those though. No problem free lessons for all haha.
This lanscape doesn't even seem real! It reminds me of something you would see in a sci-fi movie. I never learned those science terms in school before. Thank you Miss Lilly for teaching us something very cool today! :)
Marilyn M.: You remember thermophiles yeah lol. The hot springs look nice and it does look worth visiting.
Peony Love: They do look very hot there, but it could also be cold there when the pictures were taken making it more steamy.
Connie C: Was it Bio 107 or 108 I can't remember. I took 3 bio classes. I didn't take any higher level ones because they either got harder or boring and involved stupid field trips. That's all I remember and also Do Keep Privates Clean Or Forget Good S3x haha for Domain Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species lol.
mindy fan: Lol really? Your dad would like to visit? For me it's not a top priority to go there in the US.
Brooklyn Mak: If you visit take pictures :)
Vivian Tso: I think I saw pictures of it in the winter. It looked quite nice. It is in Wyoming, so I am sure they get snow or rain or wet snow may be lol.
JOY PICKERING: They do look pretty cool :)
crispy ☮: I want to go on vacation. Book me a flight too so I can go somewhere lol.
MACaddict25 ♥: =) Thanks for commenting :p
What an amazing place! Yes I remember Thermophiles from school :) I never knew the yellowstone park has so many hot springs...it is really worth visiting!
I've never been. The springs look very hot here.
Biology 107 lesson by Lilly haha. I remember that stuff. I've learned enough about bacteria, drugs, and infections to make anyone sick even thinking about it. I like the terraces in the falls.
It's my dad's dream to go there one day! (not so much mine haha)
i've never been to Yellowstone before. Would love to one day.
The carbonate does remind me of snow a little. I wonder what this place looks like in the winter. I don'r even know what state this park is in. For all I know it could be one of thr southern states.
cool
hahha this does take me back to my Science classes back in HS.. thanks alot! All of your posts is really tempting me to book a flight.
thanks for sharing
