Do you feel often scared or angry? In that case you are probably a creative person as well. Analyst Matthijs Baas from the University of Amsterdam found out that angry, scared or happy people are more creative than the relaxed type.
These results came to the table after Baas researched how our mood effects our creativity. Test persons were put in a certain state of mind, like happiness,
relaxation, sadness, fear or anger. After that the analyst asked them to do a creative task.
It turned out that the happy, angry and fearful people were more creative than the sad or relaxed ones. Also, the mood does not only influence creativity, but also the way people come to their creative outcome.
Happy people get creative by associative thinking and a matter of looking at things from different perspectives. Fearful people on the other hand become creative by a thorough and determined approach.
Baas also investigated the role of a more offensive or defensive motivation in creativity. Both can lead to creative insights, as long as the motivation activates people.
According to Baas is it key for people to work actively on a task or problem to trigger creativity. Therefore being relaxed is completely useless, but being happy, angry or scared is a helpful tool to encourage our creative brain.
Everyone feels insecure, dumb or silly sometimes, but for women there is a simple solution: wear designer clothes. The University of Amsterdam showed that women wearing designer clothes are more confident and better in performing cognitive tasks.
Eighty women were asked by the researchers to solve mathematical and language related problems. One group wore a jacket from the designer brand
G-star and the other group had a jacket on from the market. In fact they were all wearing the same jacket, but the jackets on the second group had the label removed.
Researcher Sophie Dekker found out that women wearing the designer jacket were more confident then the people who didn’t, which showed specifically with the women who were more materialistic minded. Also their score on the cognitive tasks was a lot higher when they were aware they were wearing designer clothes.
Former research already showed that wearing designer clothes could influence confidence and behavior. That it can influence the cognitive abilities is completely new. Ivar Vermeulen, head of the research program says that previous studies showed that our cognitive capability a lot depends on external factors, but also on how we perceive ourselves. He thinks that is the reason why especially the women who are fashion sensitive can perform better when wearing designer clothes.
A glass of wine at dinner, a beer in the bar after a work or sipping at a cocktail at a party: almost all of us like to have a drink once in a while. But when got the “once in a while” replaced by an addiction?
The amount of alcohol a person can handle depends a lot on the person and the sex. Just like men need more calories, they can drink more as well. As an average men have a maximum of
21 glasses of alcohol a week and woman 14. In general, as soon as both groups drink more than that problems can start to occur an and addiction might be lurking behind the corner.
Alcohol is a substance that need to be increased for effect. People who drink a lot need to drink more and more to feel any effect. That’s why it’s important to keep an eye on yourself. Keep two days a week alcohol free helps avoid dependence.
Everyone who wants to lose a couple of pounds should ask themselves: do I sleep enough? Analysts of the Wake Forest University in west Halem, North-Carolina discovered that the amount of sleep influences your body weight.
Investigation
For five year the analysts followed 1.100 African American and Hispanics. These specific groups were chosen because they have a greater change to develop
obesity. The analysts focused on the amount of sleep of the test persons and their body weight and compared the data.
Results
It showed that people who sleep less than five hours a night weigh an average of 1,8 kilograms more than the people who slept six to seven hours a day. Everyone who slept more than eight hours was 0,8 kilogram heavier.
Dangerous fat
Cat scans showed that people who sleep not enough or too much create more visceral fat. This type of fat is particularly dangerous because it gathers on the internal organs and causes a pot belly. People who have more fat around this area have a higher risk for heart disease and insulin resistance, which leads to diabetes.
Lying is one of the human tricks we all do but no one likes, even if the truth is painful. But what are the signs and how can you tell if someone is telling the truth or not?
A great part of our communication takes place through body language, so it’s not a surprise the liar gives away some clues by the way he or she moves. Liars:
- behave less spontaneous and uses the body less to express
himself
- touches their mouth, face and throat
- avoid touching their heart area
- slightly turn their head and/or body away
- use objects to create a distance, for example by holding a book or a coffee cup in between you
Another important part is the facial expressions. Liars:
- make less eye contact
- shows the emotion after the words instead of at the same time
- shows the emotion a bit too long
- only laugh with their mouth instead of with their complete face
The most of us are mainly focused on their words when lying. Because we are so aware we don’t act natural. Liars:
- who are not good at lying will keep their message vague or:
- want to avoid silences and use a great amount of details to convince you of their lie
- are very focused on their story, so will be caught off guard when you suddenly change the subjects. Liars will act a bit confused and try to bring the subject back to their lie.
