oh that's happened to me! i ended up having to go buy a new camera all together and i ended up getting the xp10 fuji which is shock, water, dust and freeze proof, yet i dropped it the other month within the 1 metre range and it now doesn't work, i put it back for warranty and just wanted money back because that was the second time it went for repairs, yet i got a stupid upgrade to the xp 20 =[ dont' buy fuji, i learnt the hard way lol

It depends on what brand and model you have and def should try to see what is worth it. I called the Canon in the burbs here and was told they do not make replacements for my model anymore, which is still relatively new. I either can pay a fee to get it fixed or pay the difference in getting an upgrade.. I still have to do some research in whether buying a new one is better or not.
