I received my May MyGlam bag yesterday & am seriously considering canceling my subscription. I just don't feel like it's worth the $10 anymore. I love the bags, but can't fit much makeup in them so they get other uses & one can only have so many random cute bags. Normally there's at least one product I fall in love with, or there's a good coupon/gift card code... May was a complete miss for me.
No coupon codes, no WOW product.
What's in the bag:
~ Philosophy Love Sweet Love fragrance sample. I hate fragrance samples! I'm picky with my scents and rotate about 3 throughout the year. It smells nice, just not for me.
~ Studio Gear Complete Color Lipstick in Cinnabar. I'm not a lipstick wearer; I prefer glosses & stains. I didn't swatch it or try it on because I'm definitely going to give it away.
~ Miss Beauty Nail Bling. Cute design, but my nails are small, so the design will get destroyed :(.
~ MyGlam Concealer Brush & Defining Eyeliner Brush. Cute pink handle, yucky bristles. They seem cheap & stiff. These are obviously mass produced & generic. I like the idea of including a cute travel brush in every bag, just wish they were of better quality.
Thoughts on subscription services?
Do you have a MyGlam subscription? What did you think of the May bag?

I wanted to jazz up my hair for the summer. Over the last 2 years I tried to give my over processed dark blonde hair a break. I used to get tight foils every 6 weeks, but now I would get caramel low lights twice a year to add some dimension, but stay more natural.
This morning my hair was dark blonde. I asked for an ombré look, keeping it in the caramel shade, but slightly blonder towards
the ends. The stylist & I agreed that hair painting would be the route to take since my hair is so thick & long.
I'm not sure if the color he used was too light, if my hair is too thick & needed more color just on the ends, or if my natural showed thru too much on the top... But I'm not happy. There is no gradient, no gradual lightness, just blonde highlights. I told him I was unhappy & I'm going back on Monday to get it fixed. If it weren't for the 2 years I spent trying to be darker, I would just keep it, but I liked being darker. Who knows, maybe I'll get over it in a few days.
~ image is mine, taken in my phone do its hard to see how light it actually is. ~
Have you ever had a bad experience at the salon?
What do you think of my hair; get it to ombré or just leave it?

Pretty right? It's a very light minty green shade. I'm sick of nail polish chipping & peeling after a day so I decided to try something different.
J/K!!!!!!
I've been painting the whole downstairs of our town home non stop the past few days. It's annoying because we haven't moved in yet so all my supplies are still at our old home. Every night when I come home I'm covered in paint & have a
hard time getting it off. Acetone polish remover gets some of it off but not on my cuticles. :(
My boyfriend & I will still be painting in the coming weeks so there's really no sense in going nuts over it. I just wonder how many toxins am I allowing to seep into my skin?
Do you have any paint remover tricks?

I am! That's right, my beloved G-men beat the SF 49ers in over time last night. It was a real nail bitter, seriously I bit some of my nails off, but the boys in blue pulled it off. They are heading to Indy to face the Pats, to reclaim the Lombardi Trophy & I couldn't be more excited.
It wasn't an easy road for the Giants. Actually in October I gave up on them, especially Eli Manning. Everyone
was talking about his "career year" and all Giant's fans saw was an inconsistent QB. Somehow though, they got a wild card, made it through the playoffs, and became the NFC champions. Just goes to show how bad the NFC East was this year, and that the Giants really do have luck on their side.
All this reminds me of the 2006-2007 season. The Giants sucked then too! They were the underdog in every game they played, yet they pulled through & even beat the Patriots at the Super Bowl!
Now the Patriots are ready for their re-match. I respect them, they are a good team. I used to love Tom Brady, he had an amazing senior year at University of Michigan. He helped the Wolverines beat their biggest rival, Ohio State, which I was so lucky to witness it and be a part of college football history. He got drafted to the Pats & was on fire, I mean you don't go to 4 Super Bowls & win 3 of them if your not.
This is definitely going to be an interesting game!
Did you watch yesterdays games?
Who do you want to win the Super Bowl?
*Image not mine, it's from the Giant's FB page. It shows the winning field goal that Kicker Lawrence Tynes kicked in OT to send the Giants to the Super Bowl *

I used to be a big tea drinker, until I started working the night shift a few years back. Now I rarely drink tea, and am obsessed with coffee. I try to be smart about it though. I usually limit myself to 2 mugs a day; one when I first wake up, the other between 3-5 pm (depending on the day and when I need the boost). Over the years coffee has gotten a lot of hate, even though it’s really good
for you, it all depends on how you drink it.
We all know coffee gives us that extra boost of energy, tastes delish, and can help that migraine, but did you know that coffee is packed with antioxidants to help fight off Alzheimer’s, can improve brain function & memory, aid in digestion, and slow down Type 2 diabetes? This is great, but don’t run to starbucks to get your fix! Most of those yummy, warm drinks have so many added calories and fat, you’re doing more harm than good.
I love Women’s Health Magazine, and a long time ago signed up for the “eat this not that” e-mails from Men’s Health. Every morning I get an e-mail filled with good information on what to put in your body, and what not to. (It’s how I found out about all the yucky stuff in Nutella) This morning’s was “The 6 Worst Coffee Drinks”, and I opened up the e-mail instantly.
#6- Worst Chocolaty Coffee Drink:
Starbucks Double Chocolaty Chip Frappuccino w/Whole Milk & Whipped Cream (venti size) - It has 520 calories, 23 grams of fat (15g saturated, 0.5g trans), 350 mg Sodium, & 69 g of Sugar! Instead they tell you to swap it for a Grande Iced Caffe Mocha w/Skim Milk (no whip) which has 170 Calories, 2.5g fat (1.5g saturated, 0g trans), 70 mg sodium & 28 g sugar
#5- Worst Seasonal Coffee:
Dunkin’ Donuts Iced Gingerbread Latte (large)- 450 calories, 12 g fat (7g saturated), 290 mg sodium, and 68g sugar. Swap it for a medium Iced Gingerbread Coffee with cream for 270 calories, 9 g fat (5 g saturated), 90 mg sodium & 36 g sugars.
#4- Worst Caramel-Flavored Coffee Drink:
McDonalds Caramel Latte with Whole Milk (large)- 330 calories, 9 g fat (5 g saturated), 210 mg sodium & 51 g sugar. Swap it for a Medium Caramel Cappuccino with Skim Milk for 190 calories, 0 g fat, 150 mg sodium & 41 g sugar.
#3- Worst “Arctic” Coffee Drink:
Cosi Double oh! Arctic Mocha (12 oz)- 434 calories, 22g fat (13 g saturated), 241 mg sodium, 46 g sugars. Swap it for a 12 ox Arctic Latte for 189 calories, 5 g fat (3 g saturated), 124 mg sodium, & 34 g sugar.
#2- Worst Hot Chocolate Drink:
Starbucks White Hot Chocolate with Whole Milk & Whip (venti)- 640 calories, 28 g fat (18 g saturated, 0.5 g trans), 340 mg sodium, 78 g sugar. Swap it for a Grande Cinnamon Dulce Latte for 210 calories, 0 g fat, 135 mg sodium, 38 g sugar.
#1- THE WORST COFFE DRINK IN AMERICA:
Cold Stone Creamery Lotta Caramel Latte, Gotta Have It Size- 1,530 calories, 85 g fat (56 g saturated, 2 g trans) 161 g sugar. Swap it for a Lite Milk Caramel Latte in Love it Size for 250 calories, 2.5 g fat (1.5 g saturated) & 34 g sugars.
This is why I keep my coffee simple. A large spoonful of Taster’s Choice instant coffee, with a small spoon of organic cane sugar, a dash of cinnamon (more antioxidants and it cuts the bitterness of coffee out) and some whole milk.
I rarely get coffee on the go, I try to take a travel mug with my if I’m shopping, or running errands so I’m not tempted to blow 300 plus calories and $5 on something that isn’t really all that great.
I haven’t tried any on this list, but my weakness is a grande caramel macchiato from starbucks with an extra shot (cuts out some of the milk), no-fat milk, and no whip. But now I don’t even find myself ordering those. 2 years ago I bought a Tassimo which is similar to a Keurig, but it froths milk. I can make my own cappuccinos & lattes and know exactly what I’m putting in it.
How about you guys…
Have you had any of these drinks?
Are you going to make smarter swaps?

With my boyfriend’s and my closing less than a month away, I figured it was finally time to do a proper post on our new home. We’ve been together for over 6 years, and have been looking for our own home for at least 4. Currently we live in a tiny upstairs apartment that his parents own. They finally moved out, so we have the whole house to ourselves, but it’s not the right set up for us.
Last spring I started to really buckle down on our house searching. We quickly realized that there is nothing out there that we like. Our two main needs were a large open kitchen & huge master bedroom that can fit our Cal King & still be able to move around. We also decided that we’re not home that much, and don’t have the time or energy to take care of a lawn (which we’re doing now- yuck!) so we narrowed our search down to town homes. We looked at condos, but need more space for a dog.
Randomly one day I did a search for new developments and came across a Toll Brothers Community going up 5 miles from where we currently live. The next morning on my way home from work I decided to stop in and have a look around. 2 models really stood out to me; the Ashborne and the Carlyle. The Carlyle is HUGE & makes you feel like you’re in a house, not a town house! It was actually a little too big for us. We have no need for a dining room or formal living room right now, and the extra space would just go to waste. The Ashborne, is their base model, but has a big kitchen, a really nice size master bedroom with a sitting room and separate walk-in closets, a loft and 2 spare bedrooms.
In April we finally put our down payment on the Ashborne…a day before I found out one of my best friends was moving into a home in the same development!!!! They gave us an estimated closing date of January 18th, and so far everything is on schedule. Since it’s a new development we got to pick out everything in the interior & when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING- including where the phone jacks and outlets go.
I’m pretty good with picking things out & so is my boyfriend, but I’m not going to lie, the design process sucked! We went a total of 4 times and changed our master bath 3 different times. The easy part was the kitchen & our floors. We basically agreed on everything, our issue was trying to stay in budget. They have everything set up in price levels. The stuff that’s included is very basic and of course all the good stuff is super expensive. The two items we really splurged on was our hardwood floors & Kitchen Cabinets. We picked out 4 inch weathered maple floors and paid extra to have the floors throughout. The only place we in the home we have carpeting are the 2 spare bedrooms and the loft. Our Cabinets are also weathered and are this neat shade of eggshell that will look great with a light blue or light green wall. The rest of the house slowly came together… Now we just have to pick out paint, new furniture, and slowly pack & move
Pics: PLEASE CLICK ON IMAGES TO SEE THEM, LUUUX is being glitchy with uploading :(
1: KITCHEN; the small tiles are going to be part of the black splash; 4 of them will be cut into the larger tiles randomly throughout the back splash. I’m hoping the granite’s blue and green hues come out and that it won’t be mostly black. The hardware we picked out is basic & will probably find something to replace it. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, those cabinets!
2. FLOORS: The maple floors, carpet for the 2 rooms & loft, and tile for the laundry room.
3. MASTER BATH: The accent glass is going to wrap around my jetted tub & the frameless shower. This was the one piece I had to convince my boyfriend to add. He thinks it’s too modern for our classic/country home, but our bathroom needed some color. We really wanted a stark, clean, all white bathroom, but the tile and marble to do that was way too expensive. This is the room I am most nervous about seeing for the first time.
4. SPARE BATH: I really like the color of the cabinets, but not too happy about the rest. It’s just a spare bath, so there was no need to dump a lot of money into it; I guess we can always remodel it.
5. FIREPLACE: The marble took us a while to pick out because we didn’t like any of the samples. This was the only one we thought would actually go well with our floors.
We have our walk through the first week of the New Year to make sure everything is what we picked out. I’m so excited yet nervous at the same time. I can’t wait to see it all put together, but what if it doesn’t look right. It’s hard to tell what marble is going to look like from a small sample. What if the tile in the bathroom doesn’t look right with the hardwood in the bedroom? Ahhhh fingers crossed!
What are your thoughts on our samples?
Do you think they go well together?
Have you ever been a part of new construction?

Yesterday, while food shopping with my boyfriend I was soooo close to buying nutella. I used to eat it a lot & have been craving hazelnut a lot lately. My boyfriend gave me a really funny look when I was about to put it in our shopping cart. We used to eat it a lot, but then I remembered...
A few years back I got a bunch of the Men's Health "Eat This Not That" books. They were given to us at
work to help with patient teaching. And in almost all of them they mentioned to stay away from Nutella. Why? It's soooo delicious! Surprisingly eating 3 FERRERO ROCHER chocolates is better for you.
OK... so let's break it down
One serving of Nutella = 2 Table Spoons
200 calories
11 grams of Fat
3.5 grams of Saturated Fat
15 mg of Sodium
22 grams of Carbs
1 gram of Fiber
21 grams of Sugar
3 grams of Protein
One Serving of FERRERO ROCHER = 3 pieces
74 calories
5 grams of Fat
1.6 grams of Saturated Fat
0 Cholesterol
12 mg of Sodium
6 grams of Carbs
0.3 grams of Fiber
5.3 grams of Sugar
1.3 grams of Protein
So FERRERO ROCHER falls short on the fiber & protein. I get enough of it in my diet. But the fat & saturated fat in nutella is just too high for a "healthy snack"
You are all wondering why I'm comparing a spread to a chocolate- I wanted something hazelnut, and grabbed the FERRERO ROCHER instead. I normally only eat one in a sitting, so I cured my hazelnut fix instantly.
I could have compared nutella to peanut butter, but I won't. There are so many different types of peanut butter. I normally but all natural from my grocery, they make it fresh. No salt or sugar added. It's really nutritious and blows nutella away.
~ Do you eat nutella?
~ Will you continue eating nutella?
~ What's your favorite spread?

Yup you heard me I wear fur, not fo-fur, real fur. Why, because it's comfortable, and warm (please don't tell me fo-fur is warm, it's not)
Now wait a second. Before you judge me, and start ranting "how can you do that" Please, take a look around your house.
Look in your closet... do you own anything leather? Shoes, bags, coats? Yeah those big cute animals that go "moooo" they are killed for
your accessories.
Does your car have leather seats?
Do you own anything silk, wool or cashmere?
Check your makeup drawer... find any brushes with goat hair or boar bristle?
Now lets move onto the kitchen... Any meat in there?
Wait! There's one more... UGGs! That's right, the supper soft outside of those boots is made from sheep SKIN.
So before you judge someone for wearing fur, stop and think about what you own.
I am a huge animal lover, but I'm not a vegetarian, I own leather, I use make up brushes made out of goat hair, my hair brush is boar bristled, I own Uggs, and I wear fur.
Sorry for the rant guys, but I'm just so sick of people complaining about celebrities wearing fur, but then do a post on their new UGG boots. Maybe it's the Eastern European in me, but it just doesn't make sense to me.
*Image is my own, it's a pic of my sheared mink hooded coat my mom got for me 3 years ago*
