Step 1: Apply a base coat to start.

Step 2: Apply 2 coats of opague white or nude nail polish. White will bring out the vibrancy of your rainbow color nail polish. Nude will cause the colors to be more subtle. It is really your choice, I chose white because I wanted the rainbow colors to pop.

Step 3: Cut a small piece of facial sponge or kitchen sponge (yup, it will work too). Immerse it in water and squeeze out the excess. The damp sponge will not only make for a smooth transfer of color onto the nails but it will also prolong the life of the sponge filled with nail polish. What this means is that the damp sponge will not harden and dry out as quickly. This way, you can continue to use the same area of sponge throughout your project.
