It is already possible to create bone tissue or cartilage in the laboratory. A laboratory collect stem cells that will create bone tissue and cartilage, or will replace damaged human tissue.
For now, it is in animals but goes to great strides in these tissues for use in people.
And this new way of regenerative medicine is made in Portugal. It is in Caldas Taipas, Guimarães, which is located the European Institute of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, which opened two years ago.
The laboratory now has 125 scientists from around the world. An investment of several million euros, but with positive results, as the company expects turnover of 11 million euros in three years already. All achieved without money from central government, through the University of Minho.
