Here is my mini tutorial on how to personalize those denim shorts. You see all the DIY for high waisted denim shorts, stud them out.. dip dye... distressed... etc. Well, add this to the list.

My picky little teenage daughter wanted some polka dot shorts. What do you do when you can't find them in stores? Make them yourself! We went to goodwill and found a ton of tops and shorts. (I will try to post a haul later tonight) Since I was just winging this DIY project, I didn't want to ruin anything brand new or too expensive.

Next stop was at Joanne's Fabric store. But I'm sure you can find these items at any craft store such as Michael's. To my surprise they carried round stencil sponges for a dollar. I really didn't know how I was going to make the polka dots so I am glad I found this! I used the smaller size. It's about a size of a dime. I found the fabric paint in the clearance section. It's a light blue and it was marked down to $.50!

The first thing I did was wash and iron the shorts. So , I didn't actually start to paint until the next day. You will also need a paper plate. I used that to squirt the paint on and worked my sponge brush from there. Measuring the placement of the dots is up to you. I just eyeballed the spacing.

I started on the front side first. waiting a whole day for the paint to dry. So this actually took me about 4 days to do. I wasn't in a hurry because it's still not very hot here in Seattle.
