My boyfriend's younger sister just got married yesterday and I took it as a good opportunity to dress up! Well, this first outfit is actually a failed outfit for the wedding because black is a bad luck color. My mom told me that a black dress is fine as long as I wear a colored jacket or shoe, but I ran back to change anyway. Everyone else was wearing brightly colored dresses for the traditional tea ceremony, so I figured I should, too, to avoid being rude. If you are Chinese, you will probably understand the superstitions and traditions. My boyfriend's older brother wore dark blue and got scolded for that, too. So it was a good thing I changed!
Anyway... For an outfit I wore for only 5-10 minutes, I wore:
❀ Black H&M dress: on clearance for $20
❀ Pink glitter madden girl slingback pumps: $20 from DSW
❀ Diamond heart necklace: $416 (it was my one and only splurge back in high school and it wasn't a waste considering I wear it so often!)
I really liked this dress! I just bought it this month and I liked the shape because it cinches in the waist a bit. It hits me right above the knee, so it is a very work-appropriate dress. It has a little slit in the back to allow easy movement.
I will be sure to post up the other dress that I wore after I changed out of this black one.

I really love the pink glitter shoes with the black dress you wore.
The dress is really cute! But yeah, my mom told me the same thing once when I had to go to a relative's wedding. So I had to find a more colorful dress to wear.
Conny Chan: lol. Thanks, Conny.
Annie L.: lol. I wasn't really sure because I wore a black dress to a wedding reception before and my boyfriend's family didn't say anything! My mom even told me it was okay as long as I wore something else that was colorful, like a shoe or jacket. My mom lied! :c But yeah, it wasn't a wedding per se, you know how Chinese weddings are with their traditions like the tea ceremonies and games lol.
Jen Liang: Yeah. I didn't know how traditional they really were, but I guess it's a bigger deal because I'm dating the brother of the bride, so it makes me closer to being immediate family lol.
Shannon ツ: lolol. My boyfriend's older brother was wearing dark colors! I didn't think it would be that big of a deal because I wasn't immediate family and there were so many people wearing black to the reception. One girl even wore a short clubbing kind of dress.
Sparkle Rain: Well, black is usually worn for funerals in general. But I didn't know it was going to be a big deal since my boyfriend's older brother was wearing super dark colors, too. I saw a ton of people wearing black for the reception, as well.
Elena T: Yeah. I saw a ton of people wearing black to the reception, too! Since it was my boyfriend's family, it was better to change before they had to tell me to lol.
i love your shoes!
this outfit was really cute but it was a good thing you decided to change it... sometimes ppl get upset over superstitions..
I think your shoes are so adorable
yes for Chinese, black is usually worn for funerals!
pretty outfit!
cute look
I can understand why you changed. Black is a color known for mourning. People tend to wear black to weddings that they wish would fail lol.
Love the dress, very sophisticated. I also love how it fits your body so perfectly! Oh, and cant forget the glitter pink heels! very cute =) it's too bad you had to change!
great outfit!
I like this dress
before i read your post, i was going to comment and be like "you wore black to a wedding?!" i'm glad you made the change but this dress is very pretty even though it's black. it's really flattering and you wear it well!
That's a great price for that dress.
you look great with this dress, although you actually didn't wear it for the cerimony, this kind of dress is so versitile that you'll be able to wear it in lots of ocasions
Nice outfit.
its a really nice dress
Cute!
cute dress
the shoes and dress are nice, but you really shouldnt wear black to a wedding. the other dress looks much better anyway =)
I love this dress. I agree that black may not be the best color to wear to a Chinese wedding. It's a big no-no if your family is very traditional.
