Contemporary homes have been popular from the 1950s and influenced by postmodern and neoeclectic design. They usually have high windows, simple lines and environmental features. They are usually minimalistic and clean looking. Some of the features of a modern home are:
• Open pavement
• Cathedral ceilings
• Exposed roofs
• Tiles or ceramics
• Handcrafted materials
• Marble, stainless steel and concrete counters
I personally like this style, but only if it is used in the appropriate environment. I wouldn't put a home like this in the middle of a forest for example, or on a mountaintop because a more rustic home would look better in those locations. I think this would be great for within a city or on the city limits. Also, since many of these homes look like they are from the postmodern time period of the 1950s, I might build one in a neighborhood that was established in the 1950. For example, Palm Springs was booming around the 1950s, so this style home would match a lot of the other homes in the area.
What do you think of this style of home and what type of environment would it look best in?
