I take Easter very seriously, that is now that my niece can enjoy Easter! For the past two years I have made her an Easter basket – and last year I made her basket and put my mothers together for her.. My niece is seriously spoiled rotten (she’s already got a basket from my dad, my mother and I gave her mine this morning). But that is the “price you pay” for being the first niece & grandchild in the family! I remember getting baskets from all my family members when I was little and I had 2 older brothers, so it’s kind of a tradition if you will.
This year I made two baskets because, the middle of last year my aunt and uncle adopted a little girl, who happens to be my aunt’s niece’s daughter, so I made her a basket for Easter. She’s going to be 2 years old in a few weeks so I tried to get her age appropriate items and things that she could use and/or learn from. I admit I went a little crazy. I got a ton of stuff at Target earlier in the year on clearance so I got a ton of princess stuff (books, stickers, bracelets, etc.) and in my general shopping trips picked other things up. I didn’t realize HOW much I had until I dumped it all out on the table and was like “Rut-Roh…” I went overboard. I stuffed all that I could in the baskets, even filling the little plastic Easter eggs with Hershey kisses. A few items originally pictured didn’t make it into the baskets, so I’ll be putting them away in the closet and incorporating them into birthday gifts (my little cousins is in a few weeks and my nieces is in July).
As with any gift basket, I incorporated food items into it – cookies, chocolate, fruit chews, and lollipops. I then found other Easter themed items at stores like Dollar Tree (hello! Duck Quaker whistles!? Duck bubbles Note: the Duck Quacker whistle was my nieces FAVORITE she was so excited and played with it ALL day long – who knew the $1 item would be the hit?!) then completely raided Targets Dollar Bodega on a number of occasions. I also like to put clothing in my baskets, so I got each of the girls’ two outfits. I got them both the same Minnie mouse t-shirt (on coincidence actually, I found the shirts at 2 different Targets), white tops, and bottoms (jeans, shorts, and stretchy pants). I also included books, flash cards, sidewalk chalk, etc.
Next year I’ll have FOUR children to get things for, my sister-in-law had my nephew this morning (he’s so cute!!) and my other brother’s fiancé is pregnant and due in October. Sure the new little ones may not be getting baskets, but they’ll get an outfit or two. But auntie & cousin (yes, I’m referring to myself in 3rd person LOL) needs to start watching the bank because I can easily go from a cute idea to wayyyyyyy overboard in a matter of seconds and/or blinks haha. I blame that on my shopping addiction.
I love making baskets; I always say I should go into the basket making business. There are a few women in my area who take orders and make Easter and Birthday baskets for cliental and base the size off the pricing structure and the sex of the child. I could totally do that. Now I’ll add gift basket maker onto my list of potential jobs at some point in my life – which also includes pastry chef ;).
QUESTION:
Do you like making baskets for children and/or special occasion parties (birthdays, etc.)?
Images are mine do not take or use. Thank you.

Marilyn M.: Thank you! My niece was funny (since my sister-in-law gave birth she's been over) so I ran to the store and came back and she was like "Auntie? You got me a prize? Thank you!!!" HAHA I didn't get her anything (well i did get her nail polish but her nails were already painted courtesy of me) so I gave her this singing bear thing I got to give her during the shower for my nephew. But she was like "You are so nice auntie!!" haha generally she's a little freshie to me because she thinks it's funny but she's been so cute lately.
Awesome baskets! I remember when I was little I just loved easter baskets! I used to help my mom put together easter baskets for her class (she taught little kids). Your niece sounds like mine lol. She is by her mom this weekend so I told her I would have something for her when she comes back, although she got stuff before she left :)
salvador santillan: Yay! Who do you make baskets for in particular?
Diana Khoubaeva: she really is, she's spoiled rotten haha. i got baskets and we had easter egg hunts when I was little. I still do get a box of my favorite candy for the holiday.
Filainos R.: I apologize, but what does that mean?
Connie C: thank you! they're so much fun!
They do. lol. And yes, I always make these for they younger children. So much fun!
wow what a lucky niece! i never got easter baskets as a kid :( i had to find the eggs myself lol.
nhami =)
I've never made a gift basket before to be honest lol. Great job though :)
Lucia B: thank you! my niece loved hers I need to bring my lil cousins hers
those are so nice! I bet they'll love them!
Lilly M: Thank you! Well, of course it is, I knew you like animal crackers! lol ;)
Those are awesome. I'd love to receive one :) I know the one on the left is for me right? J/J :p
Bklyn Queen: That totally works sending something they can use via snail mail! A big basket like this wouldn't work for me neither if my niece lived out of state because it'd be way too expensive to ship. And she kept wanting to eat ALLLLLL the candy and I kept trying to talk her out of it LOL. She says chocolate so cutely she's all "Cho-co-LATE?"
They look great! She is going to be on a sugar high! Lol. I miss doing those. My neices are in a different state, so that wouldn't work for me. I just send them clothes.
My Thuc Duong: they really are!
Looks nice to make.
crispy ☮: I remember going on egg hunts and searching for those eggs and getting them either filled with candy or change. I can understand why you wouldn't make one if you don't celebrate it. My niece was only 1 when I made her her first basket and she didn't quite get it aside from taking stuff out of the basket lol but now she's so into it, it's cute.
I miss those eggs in school when I was a kid. Like that you included different items in the baskets. I thought about making Easter baskets, but I don't celebrate it and I don't know many people celebrating them. My one niece is still an infant, so she wouldn't know what it is.
Sweets *: It totally is a bunch of fun! I look forward to Easter every year because it's fun to see my nieces excitement and now my little cousins :)
It looks like so much fun putting the basket together! I'm going to do this when i have kids.
Michelle Mai Huynh♡: Thank you! If you do get around to it, I hope you have as much fun putting them together as I do!
Pho Dang: thank you!
I love how your Easter baskets turned out =) I hope to make some gift baskets in the future!
these r awesome!
Wendy Smiles: thank you!
Heatherann Tenowich: Thanks doll! I have a lot of fun putting them together and I enjoy seeing the excitement on their faces when they see all the stuff in it. My niece was in her absolute glory today going through all the stuff. She kept saying "I love you auntie Shannon!!"
They look very pretty!
They look fabulous! I like that you took the time to customize them for the individual. :)
